Every day as I sweep through Facebook, I always notice that runners are asking questions about everything under the sun. Well, now, Dr. Juliet McGrattan wrote a book to address every and almost all running questions. Her new book, Run Well – Essential health questions and answers for runners, answers most of our pressing questions.

Questions from Runners

There are so many questions and answers in this book that I couldn’t list them all but some of the unique ones include:

  • Why do I feel like spitting when I run?
  • If I’m breastfeeding, is it okay to run?
  • Will drinking alcohol affect my runs?
  • When I run I get dizzy, why?

There are hundreds of questions with answers to follow. Most of the answers are elaborate and are followed by a real life runner’s answer to the question.

Head to Toe

Dr. McGrattan takes the reader on a journey from head to toe describing everything and anything that can happen prior to, during or after a run. She provides many tips and strategies that the runner can use and offers concrete advice to runners. In addition to her tips, Dr. McGrattan also has a section, “did you know,” throughout the book. This section provides little interesting tidbits about running that you may not know.

For example, in one of the “did you know,” sections, she writes:

“Your heart beats approximately 115,000 times a day. 42 million times a year and 3 billion times in your lifetime.”

“Paronychia is three times more common in women than men. This may be due to its link with artificial nails, manicures and pedicures.”

“Exercise helps people with Cancer tolerate side effects of cancer including fatigue, nausea, and low moods.If they aren’t up to running a short walk is just as good…”

My thoughts

If you love you run, you should have a resource library in your home and this book, would be a great fit. It’s more of a reference manual that you would use when you have a problem or a situation. Dr. McGrattan answers the questions honestly and makes it easy to understand.
