When I Went Cycling One Day…

Hilary on the bike

I went out on my QR TT Bike the other day to do a set of intervals – 2 hard 3 easy. The weather looked gloomy but I decided to do the set of intervals anyway. I kept hoping that the weather would be on my side and I would be able to get it done.

Thankfully, I was able to complete the set!

When I Got Back to the Car

I noticed that there was a truck parked next to me. A man pulled out his mountain bike from the rear of his pickup truck and started to get his stuff together.

“I think it’s going to rain,” I said looking up at the sky.

“The weather has been so strange,” he said to me. “It was a beautiful sun shining sky today and then I got here to Jones Beach and it looks like it will rain.”

“The weather has been ridiculous,” I said. “You don’t know if it will rain, not rain, thunder, lightning, not lightning… It’s nuts.”

And at that, a woman named Faye who works for the parks department came over to us.

“So what do you think,” I asked. “Rain or No Rain.”

“No rain,” she said. “It was like this yesterday and it didn’t rain at all. But don’t hold me to it. If it rains, it’s not my fault. I only work here.”

I laughed. The man in the pickup truck laughed and Faye was on her way.

As the pickup truck guy got on his bike and left, another guy in a car pulled up beside me. His license plate said WOKE, which I found funny.

He approached me.

“That’s some hot-looking bike,” he said to me. I smiled.

“Where you racing today?” he asked. “Ha, no,” I said. “I’m just practicing for some upcoming races.”

“Wow,” he said. “It’s a beauty.”

“I think it’s going to rain,” I said to him.

“Yeah, well, it rained yesterday and I got caught in it, so I’m not too concerned,” he said.

I smiled and he got on his bike and left. I had to get home as well. So, I got in my car, drove home, did my strength training, and headed off to work. A day in the life of a triathlete.
