My Three Day Cleanse

I have heard of other people doing a three day cleanse but I never thought I would do one. How could I starve myself for three days? Isn’t that dangerous?

But the more I read about the benefits of getting “clean,” the more it enticed me to go for it!

So when I ordered my Shakeology, which I love with my Almond Milk and Banana in the morning, I also ordered a three day refresh from Beach Body. I spoke with my coach and told her I was going to do this. We discussed the timing and decided to do it during a recovery week.

On Monday, I started the cleanse. I decided to stay in our Long Beach office because I wasn’t sure what to expect. I also needed to be near a blender.

On day 1, I drank a glass of water, had a Shakeology (but not with my regular regimin) with water, and had small meals throughout the day — a cup of green tea, a veggie snack, and more. The packet came with a supply for three days. There were two packets of a protein shake and one packet of a fiber sweep, that tasted like farina cereal. It wasn’t bad. I really expected the taste to be a lot worse.

The first day wasn’t that difficult. I drank a lot of water and got through it without a hitch. The second day was also pretty easy. But, by the third day, I wanted real food. I tried hard to keep myself focused, “today’s the last day…” I kept saying to myself. And, I got through it. I guess the hardest part for me was dinner because I didn’t want to eat another vegetable stir fry, although the packet comes with a ton of good looking recipes.

What surprised me was I was alert and focused the entire time I was doing the cleanse. I didn’t feel sluggish, like I normally do and I attribute that to what I’m eating. I was also well-hydrated, which isn’t typical for me, except before a race.

I was also surprised at how easy it was to exercise. I didn’t do very much, just swam. But while I was swimming I felt strong, like I could go forever.

So I learned a few things:

  • Drink a glass of water when you wake up to start your metabolism
  • Drink green tea throughout the day
  • Stick with fruits and vegetables for snacks (instead of yodels and oreos)
  • Drink a lot of water throughout the day
  • Stick with Shakeology in the morning to get you going and feeling great throughout the day

How often should you cleanse? I actually looked this up. You can do a 3 day cleanse once a month or you can do it when you feel like you need to drop a couple of pounds.
