When You Can’t Race…

When you can’t race…

Months of training… days before you prepare for the race… you have the whole race in your mind. You go through it over and over again as if it happened. You prepare your car and then, suddenly, you feel ill. Maybe you can still do the race.

As the day goes on, you wonder if it’s really possible. You know in your heart that it’s over. You can’t do this. It’s not going to work. Your eyes are heavy, you feel achy, your ears and throat hurt. You feel like crap!

Maybe you will feel better. You’re mentally not into it. You’re nervous about this hurricane that’s going to hit Florida. You’re upset that a friend in St. Thomas almost died in a cave. There’s way too much happening and yet…

You trained all year for this…

Was your training a waste of time?

Then, you look back at your year. Yes, you trained but it wasn’t a waste. It helped get you stronger and next year, you should be even stronger than you were this year.
