Why I’m Already in Love With the Deuter Women’s Traick 9 SL

I’ll be honest with you. Right now, I can’t run. My knee has other plans, but I’m hoping that in the near future, I’ll be back at it.

But here’s the thing about recovery: it gives you something to look forward to. And lately, I’ve been planning. Dreaming, really. I picture myself back on the trails, lungs full of fresh air, legs strong again. So when I got my hands on the Deuter Women’s Traick 9 SL hydration trail running pack, it felt less like gear and more like a promise to my future self.

Let me tell you why I’m so excited about this one.

A Backpack That Feels Like Clothing

The first thing you notice about the Traick 9 SL is how it fits. Deuter calls it a “garment-like fit,” and that’s exactly right. It hugs your body like a well-loved layer, not a clunky pack strapped to your back. The magic word here is zero bounce. Even when I imagine myself jogging down a rocky path, I know this thing won’t flop around or throw off my rhythm.

A big part of that comes from the breathable 4-way elastic mesh fabric. It moves with you. It stretches, breathes, and keeps you cool when you’re working hard. For someone who runs warm (raises hand), that matters a lot.

And because this is the SL women’s fit, the back length is shorter and shaped specifically for women’s frames. On average, we have shorter backs than men, and Deuter actually designed for that instead of shrinking a men’s model and calling it a day. You can feel the difference.

The Details That Make Trail Days Easier

At just 160 grams, this pack practically disappears once it’s on. But don’t let the lightweight fool you. It holds 9 liters, which is plenty for a long day out, with room for snacks, an extra layer, and the little essentials you always forget you need until you do.

Here’s what I love about the layout:

  • Four easy-access pockets on the shoulder straps, so your phone, energy gels, and water are right there. No stopping, no digging.
  • A rear zipper pocket for tucking away a wind shell or hydration refills.
  • Modular bungee cords for extra compression or strapping on gear.
  • A pole attachment for those steeper climbs when you want trekking poles at the ready.
  • An adjustable bungee sternum strap that lets you fine-tune the tension so you can breathe easy at every effort level.

It even has a built-in safety whistle and reflective details, which give me peace of mind for early morning or dusk outings.

Staying Hydrated the Smart Way

The Traick 9 SL is hydration-compatible up to 1.5 liters, so you can run a bladder through it if you prefer to drink on the move. It also comes with two 500ml Streamer Flask LP soft bottles that fit right into the shoulder-strap pouches. Easy to reach, easy to sip, easy to refill.

I’ve also been pairing it with my HydraPak bottles, and they fit beautifully. If you already trust HydraPak’s soft flasks the way I do, you’ll be happy to know the soft pouches on the straps play nicely with them. Between the included Streamer Flasks and my HydraPak bottles, I’ll never have an excuse to run dry out there.

Good for Me, Good for the Planet

This is the part that genuinely surprised me. The Traick 9 SL isn’t just well-built; it’s responsibly made. It’s bluesign® certified, which means the materials meet strict environmental and safety standards. It’s also PFAS-free (no harmful “forever chemicals”), ClimatePartner-certified, and Green Button-certified, a government-backed label for sustainable textiles.

I care about where my gear comes from. Knowing this pack was made with the planet in mind makes me feel even better about taking it into the wild places I love.

What I’m Looking Forward To

So no, I haven’t logged any trail miles in this pack yet. My knee comes first. But every time I see the Traick 9 SL hanging on its hook, I feel a little spark of hope. It’s waiting for me. And when I’m healed and cleared and back on my feet, this is the pack that’s coming with me.

I picture that first hike. Then that first slow, careful jog on a soft trail. Then, eventually, real trail running again. The Deuter Women’s Traick 9 SL, priced at $180, feels like the perfect companion for that comeback.

This is just the first of a couple of posts I’m planning around getting back out there. Stay tuned, because I have a feeling this little pack and I are going to have a lot of stories to share.

Here’s to what’s ahead. 🥾
