Why did you decide to start triathlon training? What was your why?

I started trading in 1976 to lose the weight I gained during a long rehab period for a broken ankle in 1975, my junior year of high school.

Were you athletic growing up? If so, what sports did you play?

I play baseball and football, I was at best average at football and an above-average baseball player.

What was your favorite race or your greatest achievement? (Could be running or Tri.)

20 full marathons

2 full Ironman’s

7 half Ironman

1 8-hour endurance run (32 miles)

My favorite race was Ironman Arizona.

What were some of the challenges you faced and how did you overcome them?

I battled cancer from 2008 – 2016

What are your plans for the year?

I was planning the Mackinac Island Swim but was sidelined with a blockage of my right coronary artery 4 weeks prior.  I’ve posted it since it was repaired when they found 80% blockage.

Married 32 years, two kids 32 and 30, and one grandchild. I’m a USAT-certified coach and corporate executive.
